The numerically disadvantaged home side put in a spirited display, but two goals in the last 12 minutes saw Dover comfortably into the last eight.

Nicky Deverdics doubled the visitors’ lead before Payne grabbed his second late on.

There was also knockout heartbreak for Farsley Celtic as they exited the Evo-Stik League Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw at home to Scarborough Athletic.

Tom Corner had given the visitors a first half lead, but Lewis Nightingale levelled from the spot in the second half.

Martin Drury’s men will be looking to avenge a 2-1 defeat in the reverse fixture which was the New Year game which was played on January 2.
