GUISELEY boss Mark Bower remains keen to add to his newly-promoted squad ahead of tomorrow's historic National League opener at Welling United.

The Lions ended their pre-season with a 1-0 defeat at Ossett Albion on Tuesday night but Bower is in confident mood ahead of this weekend's clash.

He is satisfied with the players he has at his disposal following the acquisition of defender Rob Atkinson but could add another midfielder to his squad before the transfer window closes.

Striker Oli Johnson is set to be the only injury absentee against Welling, although player-coach Danny Boshell begins a three-match suspension.

Former Grimsby, Barnsley, Fleetwood and Accrington centre-back Atkinson follows the captures of Will Hatfield, Adam Lockwood, Tom Craddock and loan striker Jake Charles.

Playing at the highest tier of non-League for the first time in their history, Guiseley must now adhere to the transfer window rules.

Bower said: "We've had to wait a while to get in the players we wanted – but we've managed to do that and there is possibly room for an addition or two more.

"We're possibly looking in the midfield area as Bosh is suspended for the first three games and we're keeping our eye out for any sort of gem that might make a difference to us.

"We've got decent cover in all areas of the pitch but we've got to deal with the transfer window and any eventualities which might happen throughout the course of the season.

"We've got to make sure that we are well prepared and we might have to look at longer-term loans.

"We're in a good place and I'm looking forward to getting started now because there is no substitute for real football.

"I'd like to think we are well prepared and we're looking forward to it."

Bower is keen not to overload his squad with players, despite the need for increased numbers.

He said: "We need to make sure we're well covered but we don't want to have too many players and have a load sitting in the stand because that just creates unrest and disappointment."
