FORMER Bradford City and Leeds United forward Andy Gray is one of a number of players on trial with Guiseley as manager Mark Bower looks to add experience and quality to his squad.

Gray, a former team-mate of Bower at Valley Parade, has a wealth of Football League experience and is by far the highest-profile of the players training with the Lions.

But Bower is just as keen to look at all of the options and said: "We have got two new signings in but we definitely need two or maybe three more.

"There are a couple of trialists with us at the moment and we have been talking to others who could yet come in.

"We had a very good core of players last year and we've managed to retain the biggest part of that squad, so we're just looking to add a little quality to it.

"We're close to a few things now and over the next few days I expect something to happen. When it does, it will be announced."

The Nethermoor boss is pleased with the way the players have looked after themselves over the short summer break.

They are looking forward to today's opening friendly fixture at Huddersfield and the second which follows on Tuesday.

Bower said: "All of the players are in good shape and they have trained well since they came back in. Obviously last season went on a couple of weeks longer for us with the play-offs.

"It's all about fitness really but the lads are very keen to play, so they've been looking forward to this week.

"It's a big one with a couple of games against big clubs – Huddersfield Town today and Barnsley on Tuesday. They will bring their best players and it will be a good test for us.

"The only one who will miss out is Ben Parker. He's joined in with the running but because of the ankle injury he picked up in January, he's not quite ready for the physical demands of a game yet.

"He has just about recovered from the injury but we're not rushing him back – that's not the way to do things.

"Injuries need good management and Ben is a very important player for us. He was club captain last year and he's the club captain this season, so we need him back fully fit."
