Guiseley 3, Solihull Moors 0
GUISELEY climbed to second place in the Vanarama Conference North table as they consigned Solihull Moors to their first defeat in 11 league games.
The midlands outfit were on a roll and in high spirits after a 3-2 win at Bradford Park Avenue at the weekend.
But they were without Saturday's two-goal hero Omar Bogle, with the young striker in the England C starting line-up against Estonia at The Shay.
The Moors missed their front man but the Lions also seemed a little toothless up front in a quiet first half.
The visitors had forced a chance from the kick-off and Wayne Brooksby had Guiseley's first shot on goal but his effort was well saved.
Guiseley eventually broke the deadlock just three minutes before the half-time whistle after good work from in-form Oli Johnson, who provided the assist for Brooksby to tap in.
Home keeper Steve Drench was forced into a smart save at the start of the second half and he also denied Darren Byfield – but the hosts were in control of the fixture just after the hour mark.
Johnson doubled the Lions' lead with a brilliant curling shot and, eight minutes later, the game was wrapped up thanks to a goalkeeper's error.
Tony Breeden stroked a pass out of the Moors area right into the path of Brooksby, who fired it back past him for Guiseley's third goal.
The Lions are now just a point behind leaders Barrow, who visit Nethermoor this weekend, although Mark Bower's men have played two games more.
A delighted Bower said: "I'm very pleased with that. I thought in the first half hour you could see why Solihull have got the results they've got. I think they are probably the best side we've played this season.
"We made a little change and moved OJ (Oli Johnson) in a bit and started creating a few more chances after that.
"We came up with a great goal just before the break and credit to Wayne Brooksby for that. He started the move in front of the dugout and then he was there to tap in."
