Celts boss hoping for lifeline

The Celts have not abandoned all hope of staying in the Blue Square Premier despite not being able to climb out of the relegation zone.

Boss John Deacey insists his side has to aim to finish fourth from bottom just in case there is a last-minute reprieve for one of the quartet of clubs awaiting the trapdoor.

He said: "There have been instances in the past, more often than not, when not all the clubs in the relegation places have gone down.

"If we gave up and finished third from bottom and only three went down, we would never forgive ourselves.

"We are where we are because of the points we have amassed over the season. No one is saying we deserve to stay up because of this or that, we are just being realistic."

Victory at home to Grays Athletic tomorrow could lift the Celts to fourth-from-bottom and first in the queue for a second chance if one materialises.

Deacey added: "Look at the situation in League One where our nearest neighbours Leeds United find themselves in the middle of a situation.

"Who knows where that will go? Who knows who will be winners and losers in the courtrooms and arbitration chambers?

"That just underlines how up in the air things can be.

"If one of the clubs from the Blue Square gets relegated for breaking the rules, if one of the promoted clubs doesn't fulfil the ground-grading criteria or if one of the two clubs coming down from the Football League has a problem then one of the teams in our division will escape the drop. It could be an eventful close season."

Sorry to see our team go down. Hopefully the chairman will drop the daft idea of re-naming our club. He may be from Leeds, but people in Farsley don't live in Leeds. Lets have another go next year.

I hate to see teams relegated,we at OUFC know the feeling we have been up,but our new manager Darren Paterson had strong words with the team and our chairman Nick Merry has promised us a new name for KASSAM. "THE NEW MANOR" sounds great.
