8:20pm Monday 26th December 2011 in Farsley By Ian Whiting
Wakefield 0, Farsley AFC 1
Farsley made hard work of their 1-0 win at West Yorkshire neighbours Wakefield but were good value for the victory and the three points strengthened their position in Evo-Stik League Division One North.
They needed an own goal to ease them through but it was nothing more than they deserved as no less than five penalty claims fell on deaf ears.
The home side had one-time Bradford Park Avenue goalkeeper Danny Trueman between the sticks and he tipped an early free-kick from Simeon Bambrook over his net.
But it was Bambrook who whipped in a corner just before the break that had the home defence in panic mode and Jassim Alali’s head turned the ball past Trueman.
Farsley striker Dave Stead felt he was brought down in the area on two occasions and Adam Muller also had a strong appeal waved away.
There was another vociferous appeal for an apparent handball, before Gareth Grant also hit the turf inside the box.
None of that will matter now the points are safely in the bag. Farsley remain third in the table but are now just one point behind Skelmersdale United with a game in hand on the second-placed club.
In fact, Neil Parsley’s men are potentially one win off the summit as they are within three points of leaders Curzon Ashton, although they have three games in hand on Farsley.
