Solihull Moors 1 Farsley Celtic 2

Farsley improved their placing in the Blue Square North with a second victory in a week as they edged to a narrow win at Solihull Moors.

A second-half penalty and the late dismissal of the home skipper ensured it was an eventful game.

Celts boss Neil Parsley said: “The pitch was very hard underneath but we were all glad the game went ahead.

“After all the postponements that have affected everyone it was a satisfying result and a satisfying performance.

“I didn’t see who had the shot but it was on target and their lad stuck an arm out so you couldn’t say the penalty was controversial.

“Dom Krief had to be positive when he took it and he was. Overall I feel we had the better chances and deserved the result.”

The Celts came closest to opening the scoring in the goalless first half when Liam Shepherd hit the bar from a Lee Ellington through ball.

But Farsley keeper Piotr Skiba had to make several saves, with Darren Stapleton the dangerman for the home side.

Farsley opened the scoring when Dave Syers arrived at the far post to head in a Shepherd cross.

The home side hit back soon after when Mark Gardner converted a free-kick that had been swung dangerously into the area.

It was Stapleton who was penalised for the handball and he was also handed a yellow card before Celts skipper Krief netted from the spot.

Moors captain Lee Downes was then shown a red for protesting after the home side felt a Dean Lea effort had crossed the line.

Syers flashed a chance wide from the breakaway as the assistant referee confirmed the whole of the ball had not crossed the line and Farsley forced other late chances as they finished strongly.
