Directors at Farsley have issued an appeal for investment to secure the club’s future.

Leeds accountancy firm Mazars have been appointed as administrators after a petition was brought against the club by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid tax bill.

The club, who own more than six acres of land, a sports hall and training facilities, fell into financial difficulties after rising to the Conference for the first time in their history following three promotions in four seasons.

Club spokesman Philip Morris said: “We are appealing for help from members of the business community to allow us to secure the future of Farsley Celtic.

“We have a long history and have recently enjoyed fantastic success on the field. For the sake of our players and our keen supporters, we are all hopeful we will get the support we very much need.”

*** Robert Adamson, joint-administrator at Mazars, added: “We were initially advised that the Football Conference were going to meet today to decide the club’s fate but unfortunately they decided to hold the session on Friday.

“We are now seeking legal advice on the matter and, following consultation with Farsley Celtic’s board and other stakeholders, we will decide on the next course of action.

“Farsley Celtic have a lot to offer investors – including significant land ownership, the facilities at their Throstle Nest ground and, of course, a keen supporter base.

“The club are weeks away from starting the season and have 14 days to lodge an appeal to the league’s decision.

“We are urging parties interested in investing in or purchasing the club to contact us.”

Enquiries relating to the club should be directed to Adamson at Mazars on 01132-049797.
