The five pre-season games that Farsley Celtic have arranged will definitely be added to after two desired high-profile friendlies fell by the wayside.
The Celts’ pre-season gets fully underway when FC Halifax Town visit Throstle Nest on Tuesday, July 21.
Manager Neil Parsley missed out on two Football League visitors providing friendly opposition but he more than made up for that in the transfer market by landing four big signings.
“It was a big fortnight for us getting Simeon Bambrook, Lee Ellington, Dave Sayers and Liam Shepherd all to put pen to paper,” said Parsley.
“But while we have been working on these deals we have had a couple of setbacks with the pre-season games.
“I was waiting for word back from Bradford City but both Stuart McCall and Wayne Jacobs were away on holiday.
“I was dealing with Jakes but by the time he got back all of their dates had been taken up. A similar thing happened with Huddersfield Town, so we lost out twice.
“It is a disappointment not to have either coming to us this year and it means we have another two friendlies to try and arrange.
“It’s an awkward time because all three of us on the management team are very busy trying to strengthen the squad.”
Utility player Bambrook, who has returned to the Nest as a player-coach, is already getting into his new role.
Parsley confirmed: “There is no break from the game these days and I’m still working away trying to bring new players in before the pre-season.
“Jacko (Mark Jackson) is doing the same but he is also the under-19s manager, so has that squad to look after at the same time.
“Even Sim is talking to players and sounding them out about joining us.
“It is down to all three of us to use our contacts, sell the club to available players and take Farsley Celtic Football Club forward.”
