Fab Four a hit with Parsley

The four players to have been drafted in over the close season have considerably strengthened the squad and almost taken away the disappointment of losing out on keeper Steve Dickinson.

The first arrival could be the most significant, with fans’ favourite Simeon Bambook returning to the Nest – not just to bring his playing expertise but also to take his first steps in coaching.

This week saw three new arrivals, in the form of striker Lee Ellington, midfielder Dave Sayers and Liam Shepherd – who was released by York City.

Celts boss Neil Parsley is delighted that his summer recruitment drive has begun so well.

He said: “I’m very pleased with the quality of the new boys. There is a very positive mood about the club at the moment.

“It is a big coup for the club that we have attracted players of this calibre.

“Dave was at Harrogate Town last season and I understand he is captain of Farsley Cricket Club so he is a local hero already.

“Liam is a wide midfielder, a pacy winger who can go past people and deliver. A fresh start will do him good and he will excite the Farsley faithful.

“Lee needs no introduction, he is a Bradford boy and he has scored goals wherever he has been.”

The Celts may have missed out to Park Avenue over Dickinson but they may have beaten them to the signature of Ellington.

There was a clamour to sign the brother of former Premier League striker Nathan and Avenue could have been one of his suitors.

Parsley added: “Apparently there was a lot of competition for him but I’m not aware of the clubs that may or may not have been chasing him.

“He said he wanted to remain playing at the highest level he could so with us being able to offer Blue Square North football I think that may have tipped the balance in our favour.

“He did tell me he could have got a better financial package elsewhere but that he was happy with the terms we were able to offer.”
