Liversedge suffered yet more frustration last night when their Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup tie was postponed.

Sedge played just twice in December and twice in January due to the fixture schedule and postponements, and they are yet to play this month.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men are looking towards Saturday now and hoping that game gets the go ahead after enduring 11 call offs in their last 15 fixtures stretching back to late November.

Hall Road Rangers were set to journey to Clayborn for last night’s third- round clash and Sedge are due to host the same opposition in the league at the weekend.

Only four of those 11 postponements have been at Clayborn and the forecast suggests that the temperature will rise at the weekend so there is hope that Sedge will finally get back out on the pitch and begin to regain match fitness.

The players will need that fitness as they face in excess of 21 games in the remaining two and a half months of the campaign.

Rimmington’s men have 20 league games left - just under half of the 42 they play in the NCEL Premier Division - and at least one cup tie when the Hall Road Rangers game is re-arranged.

Elsewhere last night, holders Farsley Celtic discovered their opponents in the West Riding County Cup final.

There will be no repeat of last season’s final, however, after NCEL Division One outfit Selby Town beat higher-ranking Tadcaster Albion 2-0 in the second semi-final.

The Robins beat the Evo-Stik Division One North side with second-half goals from Joe Dale and Liam Flanaghan, despite the Brewers having home advantage.

Farsley had home advantage in last season’s final and beat the Brewers 4-2 on penalties after the clubs were locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Richard Marshall netting the Celts’ equaliser from the penalty spot.
