Farsley Celtic 4 Shaw Lane 2

FARSLEY Celtic put down a marker as they began 2018 with a big home win over Premier Division promotion rivals Shaw Lane in the Evo-Stik League.

The Celts moved up a place to sixth in the table while the Ducks dropped one to fourth after the home side produced a superb comeback victory.

They took an early hit as former Farsley favourite Damian Reeves broke the deadlock very early. Reeves pounced in the first minute when a square pass picked him out and he steered the ball home.

The visitors were two goals to the good after just 12 minutes as Paul Clayton converted a good Alex Byrne cross from the right flank.

Farsley's own Clayton, centre back Adam, had departed just before the Ducks' second goal, forced off by an injury as Isaac Baldwin came off the bench to replace him.

The Celts gave themselves a lifeline midway through the half and it was Clayton's central defensive partner who grabbed it.

Danny Ellis chipped visiting keeper Eddie Wilczynski as a set-piece dropped to him in the area, giving the skipper his third goal in four games.

Baldwin claimed the assist as Farsley restored parity ten minutes after the interval as it was a good run and pass by the substitute that led to Nathan Cartman netting.

The visitors thought they had retaken the lead in the 61st minute but Clayton's header was disallowed for a foul as the corner came in.

Instead it was the Celts who went in front for the first time in the game in the 70th minute as a through-ball found Dan Cockerline and he did the rest.

As the Ducks piled forward in search of an injury-time leveller, Farsley broke and Cartman finished off the move as he completed his brace to wrap up the scoring.

Elsewhere, it was a bad start to the new year for BRIGHOUSE TOWN in Division One North as they went down 5-0 at Tadcaster Albion.

The hosts led just 1-0 at the break after former Farsley and Bradford Park Avenue striker Aiden Savory had given the Brewers an 11th-minute lead.

Tom Corner, another former Avenue man, then bagged a second-half double, while Joe Pugh and Josh Greening were also on target for the home side.
