GUISELEY'S Buildbase FA Trophy first-round tie at Gateshead was subjected to a second postponement yesterday so the Vanarama National League rivals will make a third attempt to play the game tonight.

The pitch at the Heed’s International Stadium failed an inspection around lunchtime because there were still patches of frost and it was deemed unfit for play with player safety in mind.

That was a major disappointment to both clubs, not to mention the supporters of each side, but the clubs immediately announced that the new date for the tie was tonight.

Both sides have important league games on Saturday and in the coming days as the holiday period kicks in.

The best thing they can hope for is that the tie finally gets played tonight and that it is concluded without extra-time and penalties.

The clubs had agreed before Saturday’s initial date that the tie should be over at the first attempt so they arranged for it to reach a conclusion then before any midweek disruption.

Guiseley had a midweek game already - at Tadcaster Albion in the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup.

That tie was switched to tonight as Paul Cox was expecting his side to have completed their Trophy tie against Gateshead last night.

Because of the further delay, the Lions have confirmed that both games will take place tonight.

The first team will travel to the International Stadium for the Trophy tie while a much weakened squad must now head to Tadcaster in the County Cup.

Fellow National League outfit Boreham Wood will travel to tonight’s winners in round two after they won their replay last night at National South leaders Dartford.

It was a close-run thing as the Woods had to come from behind twice, in a game that went to extra-time, before winning the penalty shoot-out 3-1.

Another of the West Riding County Cup quarter-finals should be settled tonight as Campion look set to host Farsley Celtic at the second time of asking.

Adam Lakeland’s Evo-Stik Premier Division side are the holders and they were due at Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One club Campion’s sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium last Wednesday.

That initial meeting was off due to a waterlogged pitch but James Bicknell’s Campion did have a home game at the weekend.

They lost 1-0 to Winterton Rangers but are looking for a major scalp tonight as the Celts visit.
