FARSLEY Celtic will be seeking revenge against South Shields when they meet in the first round of the FA Trophy.

Adam Lakeland's men are still smarting from their Evo-Stik League Cup exit at Shield's Mariners Park after being favourites to win.

But, with both clubs riding high in their respective divisions, it was a close game and the Mariners won a penalty shoot out 5-3 after the tie had ended all square.

Farsley will be keen to make home advantage count as they look to progress in a national competition that offers prize money for progress.

The League Cup reverse had a detrimental effect on their league form.

They lost their next Premier Division game 3-0 at home to lowly Mickleover Sports.

Two goals in the final 12 minutes saw them recover to earn a 3-3 draw in their midweek away game against promotion rivals Ashton United.

Shields are title favourites in their division and have three games in hand on leaders Bamber Bridge.

They also knocked National League North sides Darlington and York City out of the FA Cup before falling to National League North Eastern neighbours Hartlepool United in the fourth qualifying round.

The Mariners, who won the FA Vase last season, have the former Middlebrough and Sunderland midfieldman Julio Arca in their side.

They began the defence of the Durham County Cup with a 4-0 win over nearest neighbours Jarrow Roofing in midweek.
