Evo-Stik League Premier Division: Marine 1 Farsley Celtic 2

FARSLEY Celtic climbed back into the top four of the Evo-Stik League Premier Division as they put back-to-back league defeats behind them with a win on the west coast.

Struggling Marine were their hosts and, although they went down to ten men, the home side did snatch a late goal.

The result was never in doubt though as the Celts responded to manager Adam Lakeland’s call to step up to the plate after two poor performances.

They tested Mariners keeper Ben Barnes in the opening half-hour before the last line of defence was finally beaten.

It was a special goal that stunned the home side as Farsley’s Isaac Baldwin ran the full length of the pitch before slotting past Barnes.

The points were effectively sealed when Marine conceded a penalty four minutes into the second half.

That resulted in a red card for home defender Michael Grogan and, when order had been restored following the protests, James Walshaw, who had been fouled in the area, stepped up to fire the spot-kick high into Barnes’ goal.

Marine had a strong penalty appeal later as Baldwin made a challenge in the area, but the referee decided that the Farsley man had played the ball.

The home side did get on the scoresheet as George Lomax netted a well- taken strike on his debut for the Mariners.

Thackley won by the same scoreline in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they hosted basement outfit Clipstone.

Callum Padgett gave the Dennyboys a 13th-minute lead, and a Mike Garrod penalty in the 57th minute put daylight between the sides before Tim Gregory netted a late consolation for Clipstone.

Thackley hauled themselves back into the top half of the table with the win, moving up to 11th place with 14 points from 12 games.
