Evo-Stik League Premier Division: Farsley Celtic 1 Barwell 2

FARSLEY Celtic failed to bounce back from their biggest defeat in a decade as they went down by the odd goal at home to mid-table Barwell in the Evo-Stik Premier League Premier Division.

The visitors dominated the goalless first half as the Celts had another off day and, although Farsley rallied, they got nothing from the game, which is probably what they deserved.

Barwell finally opened the scoring just over a minute into the second half when Ryan Seal was fouled in the area.

He then stepped up to send Farsley keeper Graeme McKibbon the wrong way.

The visitors’ second was well worth the admission price as Matt Stenson met a 54th-minute free-kick with an overhead kick that flew into the top corner.

Celts boss Adam Lakeland responded to going 2-0 down with a triple substitution just after the hour.

Adam Porritt, Chris Atkinson and Paul Walker were replaced by Adam Priestley, Nathan Turner and Luke Parkin.

The home side were awarded a late penalty, a decision that caused confusion on both sides, and James Walshaw netted.

Coming as it did with a little over two minutes of normal time to play, however, it was too late to spark a revival.

The Celts drop down to seventh following their second consecutive defeat, while Barwell moved up two places to tenth, just three points behind Farsley with a game in hand on Lakeland’s men.

There was a revival of epic proportions in Division One as Brighouse Town led 2-0 at Bamber Bridge two minutes into stoppage time but were beaten 3-2.

Town were two goals up at the break after Gabriel Johnson slotted a fourth-minute opener and Tom Haigh fired into the top corner in the 38th minute after a neat lay off from Adam Shaw.

Brig had a penalty appeal waved away midway through the second half before their remarkable comeback at Irongate after a minimum of six minutes of added time was signalled.

In the second of those minutes, Dan Mooney converted a cross from Regan Linney.

Mooney then turned provider as Danny Forbes headed home his cross, and Brig snatched a maximum when Alistair Waddecar curled in a shot from the edge of the area in the 96th minute.
