Farsley Celtic will be looking forward to going to Shaw Lane in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division tomorrow after extending their unbeaten start with a narrow but deserved 1-0 home win over Rushall Olympic  yesterday.

The Celts took the lead minutes when James Walshaw drilled a 33rd-minute spot-kick straight down the middle after he had been fouled in the area.

The referee had let play continue after the foul, but as a follow-up shot was blocked, he pointed to the spot.

Farsley were awarded a second penalty in the second half but in different circumstances as Richard Marshall was brought down.

On that occasion the referee was too quick on the whistle as the Celts had already netted.

Walshaw was then denied from the spot as Pics keeper Danny Crane made a good save diving to his right.

Celts boss Adam Lakeland had seen his side create some good chances apart from the penalty as they had to settle for a 1-0 win but he said: “To be fair to the referee, he apologised straight after the game about the second penalty, the first time he’d let play develop before making a decision.

“It was a tense ending because we didn’t have a second goal but, despite the few chances we made, I didn’t think that we deserved to win by a bigger margin so I thought it was fair.”

Farsley remain in second place in the early table but their unbeaten start will face its toughest test so far at seventh-placed Shaw Lane, who are just two points worse off and who won 1-0 at Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday.

Brighouse Town got back to winning ways in Division One with a 3-0 victory at struggling Goole AFC.

Following a goalless first half, Aaron Martin broke the deadlock when he headed in from a corner ten minutes after the break.

Town were reduced to ten men soon after as Dan Grimshaw received a second yellow card.

The numbers were even again ten minutes from time as the home side also had a man dismissed, and Martin grabbed his second goal minutes later before Tom Haigh wrapped it up right at the death.

Vill Powell’s Town today host a Tadcaster Albion side, who lost 2-1 at Prescot Cables on Saturday.
