FARSLEY Celtic enjoyed runs in both of the national knockout competitions but they must turn their attention to the main prize, according to midfielder Ross Daly.

It has been a roller coaster ride in the first half of the season and the club’s supporters have enjoyed it. So have the players and coaching staff but they are all re-focusing now on progress in the Evo-Stik League.

Daly said: “It was great to have runs in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy and we’ve all enjoyed the experiences that came with those cup ties home and away, but it leaves us a few games behind in the league.

“We’d all prefer to have points on the board than games in hand but it’s one of those difficult ones. The cup runs were good for the finances of the club, the fans enjoyed going to different grounds and we – as players – gained a lot of confidence from the wins.

“The way we beat Tamworth was a bit special, to draw with a club from a higher division at home and then to win 4-0 at their place was great and that gave us the chance to play Southport, a National League club.

“I thought we played well but the 4-0 scoreline flattered them. It was never a 4-0 game, they were a good side and there’s no doubt about that but the result didn’t do us any justice at all.

“They were clinical on the day but that’s what teams higher up do – they take their chances and that’s the difference between the levels.”

Farsley have another big cup tie on the horizon but that is for local bragging rights more than financial gain. The Celts host neighbours Guiseley in the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday January 10.

Daly knows that the club’s real aim is promotion from the Evo-Stik Division One North.

He said, “The league was always our priority, even from day one Neil Parsley and John Deacey made that clear to us.

“We’re into the second half of the season now and we have set ourselves a points total that we are determined to reach. If we get that target we will be there or thereabouts. If we don’t win the league, we’ll be in the play offs.”
