TEN MAN Farsley Celtic came from a goal down against basement outfit Burscough to earn the victory that keeps them in the thick of the promotion hunt in Evo-Stik League Division One.

Burscough had been boosted by the appointment of new management after Simon Hardman and Keith McCann replaced Dave Powell.

A defensive error allowed the visitors to take a first minute lead through Mamoke Akaunu and, ten minutes later, Farsley’s Lewis Nightingale was sent off for a second yellow card.

The ten men led by the break, however, as James Walshaw netted a direct free kick midway through the half and Ross Daly netted on the stroke of half time.

Substitute Ryan Watson, making his first appearance since returning for a second spell at Throstle Nest, added the third in the 89th minute.

Rivals Brighouse Town suffered a home defeat to Droylsden in a game that was delayed for an hour by injury to visiting defender Phil Clarke who suffered a suspected compound fracture of the leg.

Town led 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from Dan Illingworth and Kurt Harris.

But Droylsden hit back to turn the game around during an eleven minute spell in the second half.

The comeback began just before the hour mark when Tom Peers headed home. Luke Daly struck soon after and Domaine Rouse completed Droylsden’s comeback.

Thackley skipper Pat McGuire was inspirational again, bagging a brace in a 3-0 home win that keeps the Dennyboys in second spot in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

McGuire was on target in both halves, either side of a Craig Bentham strike which came in the first minute after the interval.

Albion Sports had 16-year-old George Clarke making his debut in goal as they won 3-1 away at Armthorpe Welfare.

The youngster was only denied a clean sheet by a 34th minute penalty scored by Liam Radford after Steve Mallory was adjudged to have fouled in the area.

The goal cancelled out Danny Facey’s opener but Michael O’Brien restored Albion’s lead midway through the second half and Facey added his second in the last minute to put the gloss on the win.

Liversedge were also on the road but returned with nothing from a five goal thriller at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Fraser Hansen gave the home side an eighth minute lead but Rhys Davies levelled on the stroke of half time and put Sedge in front with 15 minutes to play.

The visitors still led with four minutes to go but Sam Denton equalised for Railway before Callum Robinson hit a last minute winner.

There was no joy for the two local representatives in Division One as both Campion and Eccleshill United lost away from home.

Campion were beaten by the odd goal at Knaresborough Town as former Leeds United midfielder Seb Carole scored a second minute penalty.

The Eagles were also narrowly beaten, in a five goal game at leaders AFC Emley.

Eccleshill briefly led after Chris Lever broke the deadlock in the 12th minute but a hat-trick from Emley’s goal machine Ashley Flynn saw them through to a 3-2 win after Matt Waller’s 54th minute penalty had seen the Eagles level again.

Thick fog came to Silsden’s rescue as their game at Widnes in Division One of the Hallmark Security League was abandoned after 64 minutes with the home side leading 4-1.
