York City 1 Guiseley 1

GUISELEY will feel pleased to have come from a goal down to snatch a draw at a freezing Bootham Crescent last night – but in the final analysis the result does neither of the National League strugglers any favours.

York remain just below Guiseley on goal difference but with the Yorkshire rivals both four points below the safety line going into last night’s fixture neither seized the chance to make up ground in the table.

The home side were arguably the better side in the goalless first period and they certainly dominated the opening exchanges.

A couple of early efforts fell to Aidan Connolly but Lions keeper Jonny Maxted stood firm.

Midway through the half it was the home keeper who was in action but Kyle Letheren was well positioned to gather Will Hatfield’s tame shot.

Just after the half hour Letheren did earn his corn as he turned a testing effort from Jordan Preston around his post.

The Minstermen broke the deadlock just before the hour mark through substitute Callum Rzonca as he netted a spectacular shot.

The Lions levelled late on as Jake Cassidy converted Simon Walton’s 85th minute free-kick.

Farsley Celtic are looking forward to hosting Guiseley’s league rivals Southport in the first round of the FA Trophy after storming to victory in last night’s third qualifying round replay at Tamworth.

The Celts’ hero was James Walshaw who bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 win at the Lamb Ground. Walshaw broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time with a shot from the edge of the area.

He added his second 12 minutes after the interval before Richard Marshall added the third in the 62nd minute. Walshaw wrapped up the scoring by claiming his treble five minutes from time.

Tonight will be a big one for Silsden as they host one of manager Danny Forrest’s former clubs when FC Halifax Town visit Keighley Road for a West Riding County Cup third round tie.

The Shaymen are the current holders of the FA Trophy but they lost their grip on the silverware as they were beaten 3-2 at home in last night’s replay against Matlock Town.
