FARSLEY Celtic are at the summit of a congested Evo-Stik Division One North table after a narrow home win over Hyde United.

The Celts made hard work of a 2-1 victory but deserved maximum points and now top the league on goal difference. Following a goalless first half, Aiden Savory headed Farsley in front when he arrived to meet Jacob Hazel’s cross.

The pair combined again for the Celts’ second goal but the strike also owed much to the work of rightback Chris Howarth who embarked on a brilliant run before delivering the cross that Hazel nodded back for Savory to volley home.

Hyde got their consolation goal three minutes from time when Phattharaphol Khamsuk drilled in an excellent low shot. They were down to ten men by that stage after James Burke had been sent off for a second bookable offence.

Farsley replaced neighbours Brighouse Town at the top after Paul Quinn’s men were beaten at home by Lancaster City who are also only behind Farsley on goal difference.

Lancaster won 1-0 at the Dual Seal Stadium thanks to Billy Askrigg’s second half strike.

The Dolly Blues are now one of five clubs, including Brighouse and Farsley, on the same number of points.

Brighouse can re-claim outright leadership of the division tonight with a home win over mid-table Trafford.

The top of the Premier Division in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League is less complicated after Thackley consolidated second spot with a 3-0 win at Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Chris Wademan, recently captured from Silsden, gave the Dennyboys a slender first half lead. Craig Bentham doubled the advantage just before the hour mark and Tawoga Gumboh sealed the win in the final minute.

Thackley now have a five point cushion over rivals Liversedge who remain in third spot despite suffering a second consecutive defeat.

Sedge were beaten 1-0 at home by Pickering Town thanks to Ryan Blott’s second half strike. The Pikes are now within three points of Sedge with four games in hand.

Fifth placed Albion Sports kept the pressure on the top four with a 4-3 win at struggling Retford United.

The home side opened up a 2-0 lead with goals from Ben Wyld and James Done but Albion’s Lions hit back through Danny Facey and Rhys Jenkinson.

The Lions took a firm grip on the game late in the second half with two goals in a six minute spell from Aran Basi and Devonte Morton. Ash Shannon made it a nervy ending as he netted Retford’s third with four minutes remaining.

Campion dropped out of the play-off places in Division One after suffering a 6-1 home defeat against Knaresborough Town.

Colin Heath netted four times with former Leeds United midfielder Seb Carole bagging a brace after Steve Hollingworth had given Campion a fifth minute lead.

Eccleshill United also lost ground in the table after losing 2-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare. Luke Harrop was on target.

A change of manager failed to bring a change in fortune for Silsden who exited the Hallmark Security League Division One Cup courtesy of a 3-1 defeat at Holker Old Boys. John-Paul Stanway, Sam Lightfoot and a Dave Swarbrick penalty saw the home side cruising with Danny Riley’s last minute strike a mere consolation.
