West Riding County Cup second round

Guiseley 2 Albion Sports 2 (Guiseley won 5-4 on penalties)

TWO prides of Lions clashed at Nethermoor last night, and it was Guiseley who defended their own territory - but only just as they won on penalties.

Adam Lockwood named himself in the starting line-up as he made several changes to give some fringe players, some on the comeback from injury and recent substitutes some much-needed game-time.

That decision almost bit the Lions on the backside as Kulwinder Sandhu named a strong Albion Lions side.

The visitors were trailing 2-0 with just ten minutes remaining but mounted a fightback, only to be left licking their wounds after the lottery of the penalty shoot-out.

Following a goalless first half, Guiseley edged in front when Erico De Sousa broke the deadlock, and ten minutes later Tom Lyman doubled the home side’s lead.

Albion substitute Temour Khan hit back for Albion, and Rhys Jenkinson netted in the last minute.

The hero of the penalty shoot-out was home keeper Dan Atkinson as he made the crucial save that tipped it narrowly in Guiseley’s favour.

Guiseley will now be at home to Selby Town next month.

Campion played their first cup tie of season and it ended in defeat as they exited the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup at the third- round stage.

It was a tough tie as the Division One side headed to Premier Division outfit Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The home side led 2-0 at the break after goals from Steve Bromley and Paul Beesley, and went three up early in the second half, thanks to Fraser Hansen.

The comeback was on after Andy Tasker and Josh Cook scored to make it a nervy ending but a second from Hansen and a Dan Barrett strike saw the home side through comfortably.

Farsley Celtic hauled themselves back up to third in Evo-Stik League Division One North with another 3-1 win over Lancashire rivals Mossley.

The Celts had put the Lilywhites out of the FA Trophy at the weekend, and the two clubs were thrown together in the league just three days later.

This time they were at Throstle Nest, and it was the visitors who scored the only goal of the first half, Matty Burke being on target in the 34th minute.

However, Adam Clayton, Paul Walker and Jacob Hazel were on target for the home side in the second half.
