JAMES Knowles’ comeback at Farsley Celtic following 15 months out with a serious injury may have been spectacular but the player admits he is unsure of his future.
The centre back’s return from a double leg-break has been seamless, showing all the reliability he displayed in his first spell with the club and featuring on the scoresheet.
He has also picked up a booking for a typically robust challenge, which provided proof to him that he was over his injury.
Knowles said: “I was relieved the first time I went into a challenge because I didn’t think twice and I felt strong after it.
“That set my mind at rest so against Clitheroe at home a couple of weeks ago, when one of our players was robbed and the ball was played through to one of their lads, I chased him and slid in to prevent him getting a shot away.
“But then I was both fortunate and unfortunate. Their lad was miles offside anyway but the flag didn’t go up and when I slid in I knew I’d got the ball. But once the ref had given a foul you never know. I could have walked but he just gave me a yellow so you get on with it.”
The former Bradford Park Avenue and FC United of Manchester player has proven his fitness and commitment but is on a short-term deal at Throstle Nest.
Knowles said: “I don’t know where I’ll be next season or even if I’ll get a club.
“I signed for Farsley until the end of the season and that will be over soon. I’d like to play on for a while but I know I’m getting a bit older and the competition is fierce for players looking for clubs.
“I want to continue playing at a high level even more because I feel as though I’ve missed out on a season and half of my career.”
