GUISELEY responded to manager Mark Bower’s rallying call following an away defeat on Saturday by taking a point off promotion-chasing Grimsby Town in last night’s 2-2 National League draw at Nethermoor.

The home side got off to a positive start as they broke the deadlock just seven minutes into the game. Rob Atkinson forced the ball into the net after his first effort following a corner was blocked.

The Mariners levelled midway through the first half when Guiseley failed to clear their lines after a flag kick.

The ball was played back into the area and the visitors’ skipper Craig Disley rose to head past home keeper Dan Atkinson.

The Lions’ James Hurst went close with a long range shot but the Mariners dominated the first period.

A Shaun Pearson free kick flew just over and a Pat Hoban header crashed down off the bar but didn’t cross the line.

Guiseley stunned their visitors again when they retook the lead just six minutes after the interval.

Mariners’ keeper James McKeown parried a shot from Will Hatfield, who was on as a first half substitute following an injury to Guiseley’s assistant player/manager and former Grimsby midfielder Danny Boshell – only to see Nicky Boshell net the loose ball.

Just four minutes later Grimsby equalised again, Padraig Amond heading a cross from Evan Horwood over Dan Atkinson.

The visitors pushed for a winner but Bower’s men held firm to bank another valuable point.

It was a bad night for Farsley Celtic as they failed to grasp a glorious opportunity to climb into the play off places in the Evo-Stik Division One North.

Following a goalless first half, the Celts edged in front at struggling Radcliffe Borough thanks to a Lewis Nightingale overhead kick.

But they endured a wretched end to the game as poor defending allowed the home side to register a 3-1 win.

Liversedge took another step forward in their bid to beat the drop in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division with a 2-0 home win over Atherlsley Recreation.

Sedge scored in each half as Benny Igiehon and Vaughn Redford netted for the basement boys.

Thackley lost 2-1 at home to Worksop Town in the same division, while Eccleshill United enjoyed a 4-2 victory at Dronfield Town in Division One.

Silsden played out a goalless draw at Barnoldswick Town in a tense derby in the North West Counties Premier.
