Evi-Stik League Division One North: Brighouse Town 0 Warrington Town 2

BRIGHOUSE Town failed to get back to winning ways following back-to-back postponements when visitors Warrington Town edged a tight contest at the Dual Seal Stadium last night.

The Yellows thus extended their lead at the summit to nine points.

There was a quiet start to the game, with few chances created at either end in the goalless first half.

However, Warrington broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second period when Ben Deegan helped on a Dan Ventre free-kick, and Ciaran Kilheeney collected the ball and made room for a shot that he dispatched into the far corner.

Brighouse’s shot-stopper Chandler Hallwood was beaten again seven minutes from time when Kilheeney turned provider.

The striker’s through ball picked out substitute Joseph Holt, who cut inside before slotting in.

Rivals Farsley Celtic go in search of their tenth straight victory in all competitions when they host second-from-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic tonight.

With the Celts in blistering form and itching to get back on the pitch after Saturday’s trip to lowly Droylsden was postponed, their main concern will be the levelling effect of the derby atmosphere.

The Rail have not won in their last four games and are three points below the trapdoor, although they do have games in hand on their relegation rivals.

Thackley will be hoping to see some action in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division tonight as they make the short journey to Garforth Town.

The Dennyboys haven’t played this year after the recent extreme weather but they will be looking to close the gap on their higher-placed neighbours.

Garforth are three places above and six points better off than the 15th-placed Dennyboys but Chris Reape’s men have three games in hand on the Leeds outfit.

Bradford Park Avenue should have been at Worcester City in Vanarama National League North but that fixture has been shelved because Avenue will now host Nantwich Town tomorrow in a rearranged FA Trophy second-round tie after Saturday’s postponement.

A cup competition has also prevented Liversedge being in action this evening.

Sedge were due a visit from Retford United in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

A Nottinghamshire Senior Cup tie takes precedence over the league game, so Retford have a home quarter-final to focus on.
