FARSLEY Celtic boss Neil Parsley always knew it was only a matter of time before his team turned their season around.

Last Saturday’s 4-0 romp over basement outfit New Mills in the Evo-Stik Division One North was Farsley’s ninth consecutive victory in all competitions.

They have progressed to the third round of the League Cup and leapt from the relegation zone to emerge as possible play-off contenders.

Parsley said: “It hasn’t just been the wins, it’s been the manner of the results.

“Over the last nine games, which were all wins, we have scored 34 goals and conceded just seven. Those are pretty good stats and all the credit goes to those boys out there on the pitch.

“They were playing well early season but getting no reward. We had the odd result here and there like the 4-0 win over Prescot Cables in the FA Trophy and the 7-0 win over Witton Albion in the league but we couldn’t put a run together.

“The approach and attitude of the players never changed and the spirit and confidence never wavered. I’m pleased for them because they are showing their true potential now and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Farsley’s hot streak of 34 goals in nine games include a Leon Osborne a hat-trick and a Lewis Nightingale brace but otherwise they have been coming from all areas of the pitch.

A settled squad with few injury problems, bar the odd exception, has helped.

Parsley said: “Robbie O’Brien picked up a nasty injury in the league against Prescot. He got two stud holes in his lower leg from a bad challenge. He went off to hospital and felt okay but it turned out to be worse than thought and he will be out for a couple of weeks.

“Apart from that and Neil Stevens’ long term lay-off, we just had a bit of worry over Paul Walker.

“He clattered into the advertising boards in the Prescot game and came off with a suspected broken arm. Fortunately that wasn’t as bad as the medics thought and he was back for the New Mills game.

“We’re not doing too bad for injuries and we’re suspension free. Let’s hope that lasts.”
