FARSLEY Celtic sent out a message to anyone writing them off before the season is halfway through with a five-star performance at promotion- chasing Clitheroe.

The Celts slipped to a two-goal deficit inside the first quarter of the game but snatched a late first-half strike to go into the break with hope.

That hope turned to dominance as they blitzed their hosts in a storming second-half display.

Farsley boss Neil Parsley said: “It was a great win considering we found ourselves 2-0 down within the first 17 minutes and, in the end, it was a deserved win.

“We started well but we’ve allowed them a free header our keeper parried but the rebound was fired in, and then Robbie (skipper O’Brien) has lost possession in midfield, and in trying to win it back has given away a penalty.

“But we scored late in the first half, and I think that was important because their (Clitheroe) team talk changes then.

"In the second half, we battered them, and some of that is because we’ve been in situations like that ourselves, just pegged back on the stroke of half-time earlier in the season and gone on to lose.

“But we’ve had five different scorers, which is always a bonus, and our strikers have got goals.

"It was deserved win against a side who had won six on the spin before the game.”

Celts keeper Tom Taylor made a fine save to parry an early header but Scott Harries pounced to tuck in the rebound.

Following O’Brien’s over-tenacious chasing back, Louis Mayers drilled in the resulting penalty.

But Farsley came back strongly and began to create chances, and Aiden Savory netted only for the strike to be ruled out for offside.

They went into the break just one goal down after Ross Daly found the back of the net with a powerful drive.

Two goals inside the first ten minutes of the second half turned the game on its head.

Lewis Nightingale levelled and, within the blink of an eye, Paul Walker gave the visitors the lead.

Centre back Paddy Miller made it 4-2 when he headed home following a corner, and Savory wrapped up the scoring with Farsley’s fifth 14 minutes from time.

Evo-Stik Division One North neighbours Brighouse Town fared less well in a low-scoring affair at leaders Northwich Victoria.

Town were on the back of three league draws as they headed to Cheshire, and a first defeat since September further hampered their play-off push. Paul Quinn’s men dropped another place to eighth as the Vics stayed at the summit with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Aboudecar Sanogo’s 18th-minute strike.
