FARSLEY Celtic are still struggling for points but anyone who witnessed their last league game will remain just as mystified as boss Neil Parsley as to why.

Parsley's men are hovering dangerously close to the Division One North relegation zone in the Evo-Stik League and last Saturday they hosted leaders Warrington Town.

The Celts dominated the game, hit the woodwork three times and had four attempts cleared off the line. Yet visitors Warrington won the game 1-0 with a 70th-minute strike, although were again under the cosh again in the latter stages.

The Celts battered their opponents without reward, leaving Parsley understandably bemused.

He said: "The players are working hard, making the opposition work, putting teams under pressure and playing with confidence. They are doing everything except winning football matches.

"You can understand when it's the odd game here or there that you don't get your rewards. You often see teams play really well and come away with nothing – but for it to happen so many times on the spin is rare.

"I've been in football an awful long time and I've never known anything like it."

The vastly-experienced Parsley has seen a lot during a lifetime in the game. He was signed for Leeds by Howard Wilkinson and later moved to West Brom before ending his professional playing days with Huddersfield.

Parsley signed for Guiseley and, when his knees finally gave way, he became Bobby Davison's assistant and succeeded the former Leeds and Derby striker as manager.

He has been a manager or an assistant ever since, so his knowledge of the game is unquestionable. A man of his credentials is exactly what is required at Farsley at the moment and he insists he will turn it around.

Parsley said: "We're 15 games into the season now and, apart from the odd game, we have played well enough to have earned a lot more points than we have on the board.

"But the mood isn't down around the place and the lads go into every game as confident as ever.

"When we beat Witton Albion 7-0, we didn't play any better than we did against Warrington when we lost 1-0.

"It is just one of those anomalies that crop up every now and again and we keep changing, improving the squad and I believe the wins will come and we'll climb the table."
