FARSLEY Celtic suffered an agonising defeat as they went down by a single goal to Evo-Stik Division One North leaders Warrington Town after being denied by the woodwork three times and having four efforts scrambled off the line.

The Celts dominated the first half and should have turned round with a handsome lead.

The home side had seen a couple of chances flash just wide before Paul Walker struck the frame of the goal midway through the first half.

Chris Howarth had been fouled just outside the corner of the area but Walker was denied as his curling free-kick dipped onto the face of the bar. Soon after, a deep cross from Aaron Hardy picked Walker out but the forward’s header came down off the underside of the bar.

Howarth fired a shot inches wide, Walker saw a goal-bound shot blocked and a Paddy Miller shot, following a corner, was well saved by Yellows’ keeper Karl Wills.

Another Lewis Nightingale corner just before the break caused the visitors’ defence all kinds of problems, and it was poked through to Adam Clayton, but his shot from point-blank range was hacked off the line.

Farsley were not as dominant in the second half but they still created chances, and skipper Rob O’Brien saw a header saved, sent a shot over and hit the post with another before the visitors grabbed their winner.

A good attack ended with Alistair Brown stabbing home Scott Metcalfe’s ball into the area from the edge of the six-yard box.

Farsley boss Neil Parsley said: “We did everything but win the match. Warrington have definitely got out of jail.”

Divisional rivals Brighouse Town went down to ten men but were denied three points from a tight derby at Harrogate Railway Athletic by a last-gasp equaliser.

Town also scored their goal in stoppage time – at the end of the first half as Steve Hollindrake pounced after home keeper Tom Goodwin could only block Ernest Boafo’s shot.

Tom Haigh was sent off five minutes after the interval for a crunching challenge on Rob Worrall.

The Rail came close to levelling when former Bantam Louis Horne's header hit the bar but Town’s substitute Danny Facey almost made the game safe, only to be denied by a brave Goodwin.

Rail skipper Dan Thirkell equalised when he converted Laurence Hunter’s injury-time corner.
