FARSLEY Celtic couldn’t repeat their midweek heroics as they slipped to defeat at Ossett Albion in an Evo-Stik Division One North derby.

After hauling themselves out of the relegation zone with a magnificent 7-0 victory over Witton Albion on Tuesday, which followed a 1-1 draw against title-chasing Spennymoor Town, the Celts lost their first game in six.

Farsley had signed Chris Howarth from Bradford Park Avenue before the game, but he didn’t feature.

Celts’ skipper Rob O’Brien and Aiden Savory had first-half chances but both were over the target.

Neil Parsley’s men fell behind at a crucial time as Albion’s Connor Blunt scored with a superb free-kick just before the break.

Parsley made changes in the second half but his side couldn’t find the breakthrough.

Brighouse Town did exceptionally well as they held leaders Glossop North End to a goalless draw at the Dual Seal Stadium.

It was a tight game in which the home side had to man the barricades at times but Paul Quinn’s men defended well when necessary and created chances against a side yet to be beaten in the league this term.

The point earned keeps Town fifth, just in the play-off places, but the draw cost Glossop top spot.

North End are now a point behind Warrington Town.

Brighouse host the Celts tonight, and the weekend’s results have set up the Dual Seal derby nicely.
