Atherton Collieries 1, Brighouse Town 2

BRIGHOUSE TOWN booked their place in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup with victory in a tight replay at North West Counties League top-tier outfit Atherton Collieries.

The visitors edged in front midway through the first half when Ernest Boafo was picked out by a quickly taken free-kick and he rounded the keeper before netting.

Atherton hit back just before half-time when Ben Hardcastle, who had scored at the Dual Seal Stadium in Saturday's initial tie, again netted the equaliser.

But an early second-half strike was enough to see Town to a win as Ryan Hall collected Will Tolley's through-ball to slot in.

The victory earned Brighouse another home tie, with Northern League Division One outfit Newton Aycliffe making the journey on September 12.

Town's neighbouring Evo-Stik League Division One North rivals FARSLEY CELTIC face their FA Cup replay tomorrow night as they host Stocksbridge Park Steels.

The Sheffield outfit are on the same step of the pyramid but play their football in the south section.

The Celts have wrestled home advantage out of the tie after a 1-1 draw on Saturday, when summer signing Nick Guest got his first competitive goal for the club.

Their season has yet to lift off but they will be hoping to light the blue touch paper in the cup. There will be a winner on the night, with extra time and penalties if needed.

ALBION SPORTS have a chance of climbing to the Toolstation Northern Counties East League summit when they make the short trip to Clayborn to take on Liversedge in what will be a tough Premier Division derby.

Kulwinder Sandhu's men are currently joint-top of the embryonic table and events elsewhere would need to go their way for them to claim the outright leadership.

They would have to win at tenth-placed Sedge while Tadcaster Albion failed to pick up maximum points at home to Bridlington Town.

SILSDEN are also in domestic action after they were knocked out of the FA Cup at home at the weekend.

The Cobbydalers lost 2-0 to Padiham but are back at the Angel Telecom Stadium in search of North West Counties League points against Ashton Athletic.
