FARSLEY boss Neil Parsley has assembled a squad that is strong enough to be challenging for promotion – and the players want to do their bit by making it happen.

Midfielder Ross Daly feels the additions made by Parsley throughout this season have all improved the quality at Throstle Nest and he admits competition for places if fierce.

"We have a much stronger squad now and that's down to the signings that Pars and Jacko (Mark Jackson, assistant manager) have made," said Daly.

"Andy Welsh has that bit of experience after being with Scunthorpe United and Sunderland. Players like that would improve any squad and Andy has come in and done well.

"Mikey Aspin is another one – he has been very good, especially lately. But he's another experienced player and he was here with Farsley Celtic when the old club was in the full Conference.

"We've also got Kyle Hancock, a young lad who has come in from the academy and has done very well and established himself.

"There is good competition, so it's a bit keen, but its difficult keeping players when they're not getting regular football.

"I think the club has learned by its mistakes, so they won't pay over the odds to keep players, and the tight budget also keeps the squad numbers down. You have to have 16 to 17 players, rather than 20 or 21."

Daly feels a lack of goals has been the club's downfall and that has made it difficult for them to break back into the Evo-Stik League play-off places. He feels that is one side of his own game he would like to improve on.

"Aiden Savory and Adam Priestley have done really well but we've not really had a third striker," said Daly.

"It's difficult to get enough goals with just two strikers at the club – especially with Adam missing games when he's away on international duty with Gibraltar, which is a great experience for him.

"We have relied heavily on him and Aiden but Robbie (O'Brien, midfield partner and skipper) weighs in with a fair few.

"I've chipped in with the odd one here and there but I don't get many and that's not my job. It would be nice to score a few more goals, I must admit, but I'm happy creating the chances for the others."
