FARSLEY were the jewel in the crown on a poor day for the area’s semi-pro sides.

The Villagers were the only winners as Bradford Park Avenue, Liversedge, Albion Sports, Thackley and Eccleshill United all lost, while Guiseley and Brighouse Town both drew against sides that were rock bottom of their divisions.

There were no such problems for Neil Parsley’s men but they only just got over the line in a game of few chances at Throstle Nest.

Warrington Town were the visitors and they have been in a false position for most of the season as they had games in hand following their long run in the FA Cup.

It was a tough scrap but Farsley earned a 1-0 win courtesy of Adam Priestley’s 62nd-minute strike. Aiden Savory claimed the assist when he did well to flick the ball through for Priestley to beat the offside trap and slot home.

It could have got worse for the Yellows as eight minutes later, while attempting to pass back to his keeper, one of the defenders steered the ball against the post before the rebound was cleared.

Farsley’s win was a valuable one as many of their Evo-Stik Division One North promotion rivals dropped points. Parsley’s men remain eighth but they are now just two points adrift of the play-off places.

That puts huge significance on tomorrow’s game now as they head to Spennymoor Town – the club immediately above them in the table but only on goal difference after the north-east outfit’s goalless draw at Droylsden.

Brighouse were at basement boys Padiham but the Lancashire outfit were the first to draw blood in the 1-1 draw.

A 24th-minute penalty gave former Premier League striker Brett Ormerod the opportunity, and he slotted it home.

However, it took Paul Quinn’s side just over a minute to restore parity. Will Tolley pounced when the home keeper could only parry a shot, and the Town man fired the rebound back over the keeper.

Liversedge lost 2-0 at home in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division to Retford United, who are one of the three clubs below them in the table.

Retford’s Adam Lee gave the visitors a fourth-minute lead, and Adam Wilkin netted their second late in the first half.

Third-from-bottom Nostell MW are now just two points behind Sedge, with a game in hand, after they pulled off a shock by beating mid-table Albion Sports.

Nostell scored on the stroke of half-time and at the onset of the second, with Dale Kelly and former Sedge man Rob Bordman on target.

Eccleshill United suffered disappointment in Division One as they slumped to a 4-1 loss at Dronfield Town after two wins on the spin.

The home side broke the deadlock against the run of play in the 36th minute before Marcus Edwards equalised two minutes later.

Dronfield added just before and four minutes after the interval to open up a 3-1 lead, and notched their fourth later to put the gloss on their win.
