New Mills 2 Farsley 1

FARSLEY’S profligacy was the key factor as they slipped to defeat at second bottom New Mills just days after boosting their promotion challenge in Evo-Stik First Division North.

Neil Parsley’s men tasted the sweetest victory on New Year’s Day when they came from a two-goal deficit to beat play-off rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The boot was very much on the other foot on Saturday as the relegation-threatened Millers netted a winner deep into stoppage time.

Farsley keeper Tom Taylor was untroubled in the goalless first half, while the visitors created chance after chance. Adam Priestley, skipper Rob O’Brien and Spencer Harris all went close for the visitors – Spencer twice, following an Andy Welsh corner and a Lewis Nightingale free-kick.

Taylor was called into action early in the second half and he denied both Rio Ahmadi and Ryan Hooper. However, Taylor was culpable when the Millers broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute as Jake Pollard pounced on his error.

Pollard was injured as he scored and the game was held up for several minutes before he was stretchered off with suspected knee ligament damage.

With just three minutes remaining Farsley snatched a lifeline when Adam Priestly levelled but,:deep into stoppage time, the Millers’ 17-year-old debutant substitute Deren Bozkurt netted the winner following a breakaway.

Parsley said, “We had enough chances to have to put the game out of sight with seven or eight in the first half and at least five in the second. But we failed to take them and we paid the price.”
