FARSLEY replaced Northwich Victoria in second place in the Division One North table after inflicting a rare Evo-Stik League defeat on the Cheshire club.

Hosts Farsley edged a tight game 1-0 with a single penalty as Northwich suffered only the second defeat in their last 27 competitive matches, although they were hindered by having a man sent off early in the second half.

Lewis Nightingale had Farsley's opening shot on goal but that drifted wide and home keeper Tom Taylor was forced to make some good saves in the goalless first half.

The penalty was awarded for a foul on skipper Rob O'Brien just after the hour mark and Aaron Hardy drilled it in.

There were a few more chances as the visitors' ten men tired, with Aiden Savory and Josh Grant going close as the lively Marcus Edwards provided the assists.

Meanwhile, Brighouse Town mounted a spectacular comeback to overturn a 2-0 deficit in stoppage time to earn a point at lowly Kendal Town.

The Lakeland side have had a poor start this term but, as an established club, were still tough opponents as newly-promoted Town suffered an early blow.

Striker Tom Matthews had to be substituted after just half an hour, with former Bantams player Jason Price coming on in his place.

Kieron Pickup gave the home side the lead eight minutes later and Maison McGeechan doubled it five minutes into the second half.

With the score still 2-0 going into time added on, Kendal must have thought their first win of the season was in the bag. But the late drama put paid to that notion.

Two minutes into time added on the visitors were awarded a penalty and Ryan Hall held his nerve to score. Then a minute later, Tyrone Gay latched on to a hopeful ball and lashed in the equaliser.

The hard-earned point kept Brighouse in eighth spot but Kendal remain second bottom.
