THE season finally gets underway for Farsley and Brighouse Town tomorrow as Evo-Stik Division One kicks off on the same day as the Premier League.

It has been a long wait for Brighouse since they sealed promotion to the higher tier by winning the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division last April.

Although they have had the full summer to get ready for their new surroundings, chairman Ray McLaughlin feels it still hasn’t sunk in.

He said: “It’s a bit surreal. People are looking at what’s going on at Salford City with the Manchester United 'Class of 92' – Ryan Giggs and co, taking over – and asking us if we are really in the same division!

“There has been a lot of interest in the town and we are expecting a bigger crowd than usual. It is an historic occasion for the club. It will be interesting to see if any of the people coming for the first time will stay with us.

“We are all ready for the visit of Radcliffe Borough and we hope it will be a game that will be an early indicator as to where we stand and what to expect.”

Farsley are at long-term rivals Lancaster City. The sides both just missed out on the play-offs last term, finishing seventh and sixth respectively.

The clashes last term were tough as Farsley took a point from the corresponding fixture at the Giant Axe and won the home game. However, Lancaster knocked Neil Parsley’s men out of the FA Cup.
