Farsley will be the first opponents for Salford City in what promises to be a bright new era following yesterday’s announcement of their famous new owners.

Five alumni of Manchester United’s world-renowned Class of ’92 are on the verge of completing the purchase of the club.

Brothers Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes have exchanged contracts to buy Farsley’s Evo-Stik League Division One North rivals.

The deal is subject to approval from the Football Association and Northern Premier League (sponsored by Evo-Stik). But with the footballing knowledge and financial backing the United legends are able to promise, the rubber-stamping should be a formality.

Neil Parsley’s men host Salford tomorrow but none of the representatives of the new consortium are expected to be at Throstle Nest. In fact, they are all still involved in the game at the top level.

Gary Neville is the main Sky Sports football expert and one of England manager Roy Hodgson’s coaches. Younger brother Phil and Giggs are both assistants to United boss David Moyes, while Scholes and Butt are coaching the Old Trafford giants’ junior sections.

This week’s announcement ends months of speculation regarding the interest of former United and international players being interested in taking over Salford. But the initial rumours were that only Gary Neville, Giggs and Scholes were looking to take control.

The quintet are not the only Class of ’92 stars to be taking over a football club, although David Beckham’s launch of a new Miami club to play in the Major League Soccer in America is much higher-profile.

Humble Salford City, who play at Moor Lane in the shadows of Old Trafford, are used to having a Giggs around the place though.

Ryan’s brother Rhodri had two spells there as a player and later managed the club but resigned when he became frustrated in his attempts to propel them forward.

Salford’s recovery process will gather momentum when the deal goes through but they will arrive at Throstle Nest tomorrow very much second favourites.

Their hosts are looking to get back into the play-off places and although Salford are just five positions lower, they trail by 20 points even though they have played three more games.

Gary Neville took to social media to state that Salford’s management and committee would remain in place once the buy-out was completed.
