A last-minute penalty helped Farsley move into second place in the Evo-Stik Division One North table with a fifth league win on the spin but they had to battle for their maximum haul at a wind-lashed Radcliffe Borough.

The visitors took an early lead, Aiden Savory finding the bottom corner with a left-foot shot in the seventh minute, but then had to fight back from 2-1 down.

Bradley Robinson fired Boro level in the 13th minute and Matthew Landregan’s strike on the half-hour saw them take the lead.

However, they did not take that lead into the break as Adam Priestley equalised following a good through ball from Matt Dempsey and a cross from Josh Grant.

There were half-chances for Neil Parsley’s men in the second half but they were a long way off their best.

When Priestley was fouled in the area in the last minute, up stepped skipper Rob O’Brien to drill the spot-kick home.

Boss Parsley said: “The wind and rain didn’t make it a great spectacle but it’s a massive bonus for us to come away with three points when we weren’t playing well.

“Radcliffe made us work hard for it though. We started well and deservedly went in front but they pegged us back.

“We had the wind at our backs in the second half but, apart from a few crosses that looked dangerous, there was nothing really threatening – it was an off day for us.

“I think we have been spoilt recently because we have been playing really fluent football and it has been good to watch. This was not one of those games.

“Fortunately other results went our way on the day and we still came away with the win, so we have done all we could.”

It was a big weekend at the top of the division with four of the top six clubs playing each other.

Darlington’s 1-0 win at home against Bamber Bridge allowed Farsley to leapfrog the Lancashire outfit.

Lancaster City’s 3-1 victory over leaders Warrington Town kept City within three points of Farsley but means Parsley’s men are now just three points off the summit.
