Wasteful Farsley pay the penalty

Farsley 1 Goole AFC 1

A host of missed opportunities proved costly for Farsley as they were held to a surprise home draw by relegation-threatened Goole.

For the second week on the spin, Ryan Harrison netted a spectacular strike but Neil Parsley’s men were again on the wrong end of a controversial penalty. On this occasion the spot-kick proved to be critical as it earned Wayne Benn’s side a point.

Harrison’s wonder goal put the home side into an 18th-minute lead but former Park Avenue skipper and Guiseley assistant manager Benn got to work on his team during the break.

Goole came out fired up and former Guiseley winger Chris Ovington soon forced a save out of keeper Ben Higginson.

The penalty incident came just before the hour when James Riley was adjudged to have fouled Aiden Savory. The former Avenue striker took the spot-kick himself, sending Higginson the wrong way.

Goole keeper Lee Appleby then made a string of top class saves to ensure his side gained the point which lifted them out of the relegation zone.
