Eccleshill United 4, Hallam 1

Eccleshill's season came to an end a week before most of their Northern Counties East Premier Division rivals but it did not stop them signing off with a handsome win over one of the top-six sides.

One of the Eagles' four goals came from assistant manager Andy Patterson, who started the game.

They broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Marcus Edwards sprinted clear to score from a Gary Birchill through-ball.

Patterson blocked a kick out by the Hallam keeper five minutes before half-time and the ball rebounded into the net.

The second half was tame in comparison but the visitors did halve United's lead. It stemmed from a rare error by Chris Cookson and ended with David Knaggs rifling into the net.

The home side put the gloss on their win with two goals in the last four minutes. A long run and cut back by Ian Green set up Andy Philp, while James Gorman forced the Hallam keeper into a rushed clearance which led to Marvin Edmondson netting his first goal for United.
