Glapwell 2, Eccleshill United 0

Eccleshill equalled second-placed Glapwell in every department for an hour before losing out to the clinical finishing of their Northern Counties East Premier Division hosts.

They got two half-chances and took them both, although United contributed to their own downfall as both goals stemmed from errors by the inexperienced Eagles.

The visitors switched off at a 61st-minute throw-in and Matt Varley pounced to put Glapwell in the lead. Then five minutes from time, with Eccleshill piling forward, Ian Brown got on the end of a quick breakaway and netted a good finish.

Eagles boss Mick Watson said: "I thought we were the better side. I was delighted with the performance and the effort.

"They are second in the table, very direct and good at it, but I told my lads after the game that they had played the better football and I was happy with them."
