    Eagles upset at postal delay

Club secretary Paul Jarvis was left wondering who would have been to blame if Eccleshill had fielded an ineligible player in the big Bradford derby at Liversedge last Saturday.

United earned a precious point from a 3-3 draw but could have had that deducted through no fault of their own.

"I got a letter at my home address at 9.30 on the morning of the Liversedge game informing us that Gary Birchill was suspended," said Jarvis.

"If we had been playing any further away than the other side of Bradford, I would have been out of the house a lot earlier than that and would have missed the post. If we had been playing at home I would also have been out earlier, nine times out of ten.

"There is a lot to do on match days and many of us are at the ground from early morning doing a range of jobs."

It was pure chance that Jarvis was able to pick the letter up and when he told Mick Watson and Andy Patterson, they had to swap things around regarding the team.

Jarvis added: "The situation with Birchy was not even one we could monitor. It was a one-game ban for an accumulation of five yellow cards and he has been playing Sunday football, so we wouldn't have known.

"No doubt it would have all been our fault' if he had played for us against Sedge and any penalties would have been taken out on us. We were lucky but I think its something that needs looking at."
