Watson wants cure for fear factor

The narrow defeat at struggling Lincoln Moorlands Railway was yet another frustration for Eccleshill United.

It was a step up from the mauling they took at leaders Winterton Rangers the previous week but was still not what manager Mick Watson expected.

He felt his squad should have been able to break their run of poor results and said: "It was an improvement of sorts but the confidence of the lads is very low at the moment. It is something we are working on but until the lads win a game and win it well, it is likely to continue.

"At Lincoln we missed chances early on, then let in a sloppy goal and that is when our problems began - not just in that match but in many recent games, we start well and then get twitchy."

Watson admits the bad run is playing on his players' minds.

He said: "When the opposition go in front you can see the confidence draining out of our players. It's like flicking a light switch but it isn't something we have control over from the dugout.

"We can work the players hard in training, have a bit of fun with the ball and get together socially. It's once the players have crossed the white line that a little bit of fear creeps in.

"They are frightened of making mistakes because of the run we have been on and that means they don't play their natural game."
