Watson backing an Eagles recovery
ECCLESHILL boss Mick Watson is confident his squad can bounce back from last week's 7-1 Northern Counties East League humbling at Premier Division leaders Winterton Rangers when they journey to second-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Saturday.
Watson reflected: "I have recovered from it and I said to Andy (assistant Patterson) that we had to get it out of our system first in order to set an example to the lads. It is up to us to lift the players.
"It was a combination of Rangers playing to the top of their form and us being just a little under par. It was a bad day at the office and that happens. We had a very good training session when we came back in on Tuesday.
"There were some harsh words flying around in the dressing room at Winterton - not from Andy and myself but home truths between the lads. I think that did some good but, more importantly, it was left there.
"The mood was good on Tuesday and Thursday and towards the end of those hard training sessions we had some fun. All of the lads joined in and it was very encouraging."
Watson is hoping Ryan Wood will be fit after he was forced off in the 12th minute at Winterton with a head injury. The striker travelled back with the team but had to go to hospital for treatment to a deep gash.
LIVERSEDGE will be aiming to keep a little tighter at the back after letting in a last-minute equaliser last Saturday. That cost them two points and second place in the table.
This weekend's opponents are mid-table Parkgate, who have home advantage - but Sedge have the incentive of knowing a win may still see them go second.
"It was right at the death last week and I think it was a bit naive of us, to be honest, as the ball should have been in Batley!" said Sedge boss Steve Newton.
"The board had gone up saying three minutes were added and we had played more than 90 seconds of that. It is one of those things that the players have to learn.
"It was harsh because we deserved more than a draw but I just hope it's a lesson learned. At the end of the day it's gone and now we have to move on and refocus."
Newton has Danny Cooper back from suspension but recent signing Chris Hannay, from Otley Town, sits out a one-game ban. Versatile Brook Newton is also missing due to a short holiday.
THACKLEY had an excellent win last Saturday at home to Hallam so they will have no qualms about their journey to Pickering Town this weekend. John Boyle's men rise to the occasion when facing the so-called better sides and Pickering are fourth.
