Club stalwart will be sadly missed
The Eagles lost their skipper this week but there was a much more devastating loss the week before as one of the stalwart volunteers collapsed and died while away on holiday.
Eccleshill secretary Paul Jarvis said: "Ken Stokes, our long-serving gateman and general helper, passed away during a short break in Portugal. He had not been himself for a while but we were all hoping the holiday would do him good but unfortunately he suffered a heart attack.
"We had a minute's silence before the home game against Glasshoughton Welfare last Saturday and there were a lot of sad faces. Ken had been a part of the club for so long.
"At times like this, all the thoughts are with his family. The club will miss him but that is nothing compared to the loss his family will feel."
The sadness felt at Plumpton Park overshadowed the transfer of club captain Chris Rosindale. The midfielder has left to join Harrogate Railway Athletic in the UniBond Division One North.
Eagles boss Mick Watson said: "He came to us shortly after his release by Torquay United and we know he has the ability to play at a higher level so good luck to the lad.
"He has gone on to bigger and better things and we won't argue with that.
"Mark Flanagan has also moved on. I think he has decided on playing local football so we have two players out of the squad.
"They say when one door closes another opens so it will give other people a chance to establish themselves in the squad or even become a first-team regular."

Time to start brooding the youngsters. They are two or three good Under 19 players who could fill the positions left vacant!
