Baker on target to boost Eagles
Eccleshill United 1, South Normanton Athletic 0
The Eagles are flying again after they finally ended their long run of defeats and even kept a clean sheet as they took maximum Northern Counties East Premier Division points from the visit of struggling South Normanton.
It was a game of few chances and the nervousness was almost tangible, with the game's only goal coming in the 23rd minute. It was from an unusual source as Paul Baker netted on his return to first-team action.
Skipper Chris Rosindale was the provider, slipping the offside trap and racing clear through the inside-right channel. He had the presence of mind to consider his options and looked up before rolling the ball to Baker, who swept in from the six-yard line.
"It was not the best game but we will take the win as the rut is now over," said spokesman and club secretary Paul Jarvis.
