Pitch work has begun early at Eccleshill’s Plumpton Park ground as the club want as many pre-season friendlies at home as possible.

Club secretary Mark Holstead said: “The hope is that by starting the work as soon as possible after the local finals that we hosted, the pitch will be ready for play early next month.

“We want the bulk of the matches at home to help with the turnover.

“In the past we have travelled for many of our friendly games, so we have had to approach new opponents this year.

“Guiseley have replied, Scarborough are trying to fit us in and we have contacted FC United of Manchester.

“We have also asked Thackley, our nearest neighbours. They will not be in our division next year now, so we hope they will visit us in pre-season.”
