Eagles want new boss in sooner rather than later

Eccleshill United have placed a deadline on applications for their vacant manager’s role because they want the new man to have time to get the pre-season preparations planned.

Eagles’ secretary Mark Holstead, who this week announced that Ray Price would not remain at the helm, said they want to formulate a short list very soon. He also admitted the whole process has been difficult to handle.

“We are asking for any interested parties to have their details in before June 10 and then we can begin the interview process,” said Holstead.

“Some interest has been shown already by a few people who were making discreet enquiries. The committee didn’t decide until last weekend that they would look to someone other than Ray.

“It has not been very easy for me to deal with all this because I have only been secretary for a matter of months.

"It was left to me to have the conversation with Ray after the meeting when it was decided that he wouldn’t be staying.

“Ray was thanked for his efforts and he is and always will be part of Eccleshill United - he has a place in the club’s history. I’ve got interviews to arrange and I’ve also spoken to prospective friendly opponents.

“We have had to move things along because we can’t leave anything to chance. What I am confident of is that we will get the right man.

"It just has to be a bit quick because we hope to have it settled in couple of weeks to get someone in with enough time for a decent pre-season.”

The club will not be in a position to throw money at the first team next season. They need a management team to come in with good contacts throughout the game.

They want someone with a fresh pair of eyes who is able to plan for the future. They expect to be able to match certain wage demands the season after next.

“We deservedly went down to the First Division because we weren’t good enough over the last season,” admitted Holstead.

“That was definitely no reflection on Ray, who tried to steady the ship when he came back to us. We need a new first-team manager because it is time to rebuild as the squad needs a complete overhaul.

“We are hoping to retain some of the experienced lads and add the enthusiastic youngsters from our successful youth sections.

"We have a lot of young lads wanting a start in first-team football and they are very loyal to the club. That is what the new manager will be inheriting.”
