ECCLESHILL United are inching closer to securing second place in Division One of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League after cruising to a 3-0 home win over Retford United, who slipped to the foot of the table after the result.

The Eagles took the lead when Luke Harrop broke through and slotted under the visiting keeper nine minutes before the interval.

Antony Brown doubled their lead, cutting in from the right before chipping the keeper, and Jonny Irving put the gloss on the victory after Harrop had unselfishly squared the ball to him in front of goal.

Rivals Campion battled out a 2-1 win at struggling Worsbrough Bridge Athletic. The red and blacks took a 21st minute lead through Jason Davis but the Briggers hit back in the second half when Lee Morris levelled, but Piteu Crouz netted Campion’s late winner.

The clubs meet at Campion’s sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium at Manningham Mills tomorrow night and with the hosts just four points outside the play-off places and the Eagles seeking automatic promotion, there should be a good atmosphere for the Bradford derby.

The local sides in the top tier had a mixed Saturday as Liversedge netted six but conceded three in a high-scoring match against third-placed Maltby Main, Albion Sports were held to a goalless draw by struggling Harrogate Railway Athletic and Thackley were beaten 2-0 at Hemsworth.

It was non-stop goal fest at Clayborn as the sides went into the break all level at 2-2 but a second-half hat-trick for Sedge’s Aaron Fell put the home side in control.

Cam Taylor had broken the deadlock and Rhys Davies also scored in the first half before a Jordan Windass penalty made it six for Sedge. Cam Rigby, Sam Forster and Ross Duggan were all on target for Maltby.

Sedge go again tomorrow night when they host Bridlington Town.

Thackley competed well in the second half at sixth-placed Hemsworth but Harry Viggars broke the deadlock just before the hour and Lloyd Henderson added in the last minute.

Albion’s three-game winning run ground to a halt at Station View but the draw kept their unbeaten run going. The result did the home side no favours as the Rail dropped into the relegation zone following results elsewhere.
