ECCLESHILL United were denied the chance to snatch back the leadership of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League First Division when last night’s home game against fourth-placed Yorkshire Amateur was postponed.
The Eagles topped the table, albeit briefly, at the end of November and also picked up the club of the month award.
Since then they have not been out of the top three and are just two points behind leaders Knaresborough Town, so would have leapfrogged them on a temporary basis at least as Town have two games in hand.
Knaresborough did not have a midweek game, but it would have been difficult to go above them by beating the Ammers, although Sean Regan’s men would have been confident after winning at third-placed Grimsby Borough at the weekend.
As Eccleshill were beating Boro 3-2, thanks to Matt Mathers’ last-minute winner, the Ammers were losing 3-2 at fifth-placed Shirebrook Town.
A new date has already been set for last night’s game, with the Eagles now hosting Yorkshire Amateur on Wednesday, March 7.
